There are many SEO benifits when creating a blog, they are designed and setup spacificly to get rankings and have automated SEO process to make it less work to get rankings for the keywords your targeting.

One of the best ways to create a blog is a Sub-domain from the main root domain.  This helps out the traffic on the main domain and also makes it more seamless to make the transition from the blog to the main domain.

One of the biggest part of getting ranked in Google is getting Page Ranking but its not everything.  If your energy is not focused on specific keywords you will not get the rankings you need to get the traffic your wanting.  This is like becoming a very strong fighter but don’t know how to fight.  A skilled fighter that is not as strong can easily beat out a stronger fighter.  This is the same reason for a website that is not focusing the direction on getting rankings on the keywords but yet has all the Page Rankings to get the rankings.
